📸 AWFC: Our top-10 photos of 2020

AWFC

As 2020 draws to a close, we’re taking time to look back on a year that’s been like no other.

From Champions League nights to life in lockdown, there have been plenty of highs and lows, but our club photographer, David Price, has been there through it all.

Here’s a selection of his favourite shots from 2020…

February 19: What can I say? Always be on your toes when Danielle van de Donk is around.

May 14: At the start of lockdown, the players chose to pair up and stay with each other so they didn’t have to train and live alone. Caitlin Foord, who had only been in the UK a short while, partnered up with Lia Walti. I popped over to photograph one of their training sessions (socially distanced, of course).

August 21: A top shooter and a top snapper. Vivianne Miedema takes a selfie of Lisa Evans, Katie McCabe, Leah Williamson and Jill Roord during their visit to Estadio Anoeta in the Champions League. Very 2020 with the face masks.

August 22: Beth Mead levels the score against PSG in the Champions League. Tough on the team to go into a match this big right off the back of lockdown, with just a few friendly matches as preparation.

Tierney

September 3: Kieran Tierney had his Tesco bag, but Leah clearly prefers to shop at another supermarket.

September 6: Kim Little kickstarts the 2020/21 WSL season off in style with this flying volley against Reading.

Lisa Evans

September 26: Lisa Evans looking proud to take home her hat-trick ball in the north London derby (FA Cup).

November 15: Katie, Kim, Viv and Caitlin celebrate Beth Mead’s goal against Chelsea.

December 6: The team clap the returning fans before their match against Birmingham City. Whenever I cover this team, I’m always struck by the bond between the players and the supporters. The players always spend time to chat and sign autographs for the fans after their matches, so not having them at Meadow Park is a big loss.

beattie

December 20: Jen Beattie celebrates scoring our third goal against Everton with Leah and Jordan. There have been many heroes during 2020, but Jen in particular has been a hero to everyone connected with Arsenal, or even football for that matter. The way she has continued to train and play before and after her cancer diagnosis has been truly remarkable, and her decision to go public with her story is incredibly brave and inspiring.
