‘Australia have a golden generation right now’

Joe Montemurro

Jordan Nobbs, Beth Mead and Leah Williamson could all feature for England in their international friendly against Australia on Tuesday night.

They’ll be hunting for their sixth consecutive win in all competitions, but according to Joe Montemurro, they’ll be facing a golden generation of Australian talent.

“We will wait for the result and then I’ll let you know whether I cop any stick or not,” Montemurro told Arsenal.com. “It’s going to be two of the top teams in the world and it’s an exciting fixture.

“I’d recommend that a lot of people get out to watch that game because it’s going to be two really good teams playing a good brand of football.

“It’s a different scenario [compared to women’s football in England] because there aren’t as many teams, but Australia right now is going through an amazing golden generation of players and their national team is maybe fourth in the world at the moment.

“They’ll be up there challenging to win the World Cup. They’ve got a talent group of players in the national team and the league is really benefiting from it, but the most important thing is that a lot of these players are playing overseas in the US, so the quality is very high.”
