Aubameyang - My memories of being at Milan

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is cup-tied for our Europa League trip to AC Milan - but the match will bring back memories of the striker’s time in Italy.

Our No 14 began his career at Thursday’s opponents. He didn’t make a competitive appearance for the Rossoneri, but feels “lucky” to have trained alongside a number of modern-day legends.

“When I was at Milan, I was very young, with very little experience,” he told Arsenal Player. “But it was there that I learned how to become a professional. I was lucky because there were lots of top players there at the time, like Maldini, Nesta, Kaka, Seedorf, Ronaldo.

“I was quite shy as a person, but I was keen to watch what these top players did and I learned a lot that way.”

Pierre’s father was a scout at AC Milan and his brothers, Willy and Catilina, also represented the Serie A side. So who will the Aubameyang family be supporting on Thursday?

“They'll be supporting Arsenal, of course,” Pierre added. “Even though the whole family grew up in Milan. We were lucky enough to come through at that club, but life has gone in this way, and now we're supporting Arsenal.

“At home they'll be cheering on Arsenal. But of course we still have a lot of respect for them. They helped us a great deal - the whole family. We were very fortunate to spend time there.”
