Auba - The moment I knew I had to be a footballer

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has made a big impact in a short time since his arrival at the club in January.

The Gabon international has three goals and an assist in his six games in an Arsenal shirt, and he says that the game has always been part of his life.

"I remember the first time that I kicked a ball. I was at home playing football with my father," Aubameyang told Arsenal Player.

"I wasn't thinking about becoming a professional footballer way back then - I was very young. But as soon as I began to understand football, I really wanted to be a footballer one day.

"It was when I first started playing for a team, L'Huisserie, which was near where I lived [that my ambition became clear]. I knew from that moment that football had to be a part of my life."

Wilshere and Welbeck named in England squad

Jack Wilshere celebrates for England

Danny Welbeck and Jack Wilshere have been called up to the England squad for their friendlies this month.

Gareth Southgate’s side will face Netherlands on Friday, March 23 at Ajax’s John Cruyff Arena, before hosting Italy four days later at Wembley as they continue preparations for this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

Congratulations, Danny and Jack!

Danny Welbeck scores for England

Welbeck - My memories of playing with Ronaldo

When Danny Welbeck first made the breakthrough at Manchester United, he sat next to Cristiano Ronaldo in the dressing room.

It was in that year, 2008, that Ronaldo won the Ballon d’Or for the first time, having helped Manchester United to a Premier League and Champions League double.

But despite those achievements, there was no let up in the way the Portugal international prepared for games.

“When I first got put in the first-team dressing room, I think I was between Giggs and Ronaldo,” Welbeck told Arsenal Player. “You walk in and it’s like ‘woah, these are two top-class players’.

“Even back then, you could see the dedication and the motivation that Ronaldo had. I was looking at him like ‘wow, this is special, what I’m seeing on the training field’. You look at him now and it’s not a surprise to see the levels that he’s reached.

How we can get the best out of Auba and Micki

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have made promising starts to their Arsenal careers - but Shkodran Mustafi feels the rest of the squad need to be at their best if our two new signings are really to flourish.

The pair have a combined five goals and six assists since joining us in January, and Mustafi feels there is a lot more to come.

“Obviously they’ve known each other for a long time, but football isn’t about one pair, or three players playing together,” Mustafi told Arsenal Player. “We need to find more solutions as a team playing from the back up to the front and through the whole team.

“We have to try to find more solutions so we can bring everyone’s strength [into play]. That’s when we are at our best, when we can play the way that everyone is playing at their strengths. Then we achieve different results.

“For Pierre, I think it’s a little bit too early to make a statement, because I think it needs time. He needs games to see how he’s going to settle.”

Mkhitaryan is February Player of the Month

Congratulations to Henrikh Mkhitaryan - our new No 7 has capped his first full month as an Arsenal player by winning our February Player of the Month award.

The Armenia international began the month in scintillating form, creating three goals in our 5-1 win over Everton. He provided two more assists to help us to a 3-0 victory away at Ostersunds in the Europa League. In fact, Mkhitaryan averaged an assist every 65.8 minutes in February.

Mkhitaryan received almost three quarters of the votes cast, with Nacho Monreal and Aaron Ramsey finishing in second and third place respectively.

Goal of the month

Aubameyang tops our Goal of the Month poll

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s first strike in an Arsenal shirt has been voted as our Goal of the Month for February.

The Gabon international opened his Gunners account on his debut, racing onto Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s through ball before lifting over Jordan Pickford during our 5-1 win over Everton.

Aubameyang’s strike was our overwhelming winner with 57 per cent of the votes cast, with Aaron Ramsey’s first finish from the same game in second place, and Mesut Ozil’s goal against Ostersunds in third.
