Interview

'Arteta shouted quite a lot at half-time!'

It was certainly a tale of two halves as we beat Leeds United to progress to the Emirates FA Cup fourth round on Monday night.

But what was behind our much improved showing after the interval? According to Alex Lacazette and Reiss Nelson, it was down to some stern words from our new head coach.

This is what they told the media after the game:

on the emotions of scoring…

RN: The emotions are high after that. I think they played well in the first half, of course Leeds are a great team and they pressed us and we didn’t expect it. We got the final goal in the end and that’s the most important thing.

on Arteta's words at the break…

AL: He shouted quite a lot, he was not happy because we knew they were going to play like this and we didn’t respect what he said. For the second half it was better and thank you to Reiss for the goal.

on working with Mikel…

RN: As a coach I think you need to have the aggressive side and he’s loving as well. In training he’s always asking us to press with passion and play with purpose and I think we played out wide and in the middle and it’a all going on.

on back-to-back wins in all competitions…

RN: Of course, it gives us confidence going forward and into the Palace game, we want to go there and do well and I think getting two wins at the Emirates it’s good and I just want to carry on going forward.
