Mikel Arteta has ruled both Riccardo Calafiori and Jorginho out of this weekend’s match against Bournemouth, but has provided a positive update on Kai Havertz.
Calafiori has missed the last nine games while Jorginho has been out of action since going off in the draw with Brentford last month, while Havertz picked up a hamstring injury during our training camp to Dubai back in February.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Friday, Arteta said: “Calafiori is out, Jorginho is still out. Jorginho’s got a bit more complicated than expected. Thankfully, he's fine, he's feeling good, he's recovering well, but it was a bit more than what we wanted.”
However, the boss said there is a chance Jorginho could yet feature before the end of the season: “Yes. Hopefully, if everything goes well in the next week or so, I think he will gradually integrate in the team.”
And it’s a similar story for Havertz, who was originally ruled out for the season after surgery in the winter. He’s missed the past 15 matches.
“I think if everything goes the way it's going at the moment and the way it's planned, I think he will have a chance to play a few games here in the season,” Arteta confirmed.
The boss also said that there was a chance that either Havertz, Jorginho or Calafiori could be in contention to face Paris Saint-Germain in France on Wednesday: “I wouldn't rule all of them out, let's see in the next few days how a few of them react.”
