Our women's U21s side are officially league champions, clinching the PGA League Under-21 Division One title with one game to spare.
Elliot Allum's side won nine games from 14 across the league, capping off a fantastic campaign with a 2-2 draw against Durham. Lauren Bowe and Milly Boughton were both on the scoresheet on Wednesday afternoon.
Our young Gunners secured the silverware last week, pipping Manchester United to the title, and lifted the trophy on home soil after the final game of the season.
Captain Niamh Peacock reflected on the team's successful season: "It feels unbelievable - not only to have the honour of being captain of this team, but also being able to lift this trophy with them all! The commitment and dedication of every person in this team have paid off. Wanting more from each other has made us individually better players, but it's also strengthened our team bond, on and off the pitch. This season is one I most definitely won’t forget!
"Winning the league doesn’t just happen overnight. It consists of performing well consistently the whole season and we’ve had to overcome many challenges together, which just shows the mentality of this team. A big credit goes to the staff who always push us to be better at every training session and game, whilst also keeping us fit and healthy. Without their high standards, this team wouldn’t have won this league.
"Elliot has always been clear and honest with his wants from us as a team. Taking each game at a time was something he drilled into us and pushing strong performances rather than the outcome has always made us grounded. A big value of this team is respect and there is a mutual respect between players and coaches in this group. Most importantly, Elliot has made the environment one where we can be challenged, whilst also embracing the love and pride we feel by playing football and playing for this badge."
Coach Elliot Allum also spoke of his pride for the side's victory: "Being able to lead this team to a trophy, alongside the great people I work with every day, is incredible. The team have worked so hard both on and off this pitch this season, and it's only the beginning for these players. They deserve to enjoy this moment. Their hard work and determination have shown what they can achieve."
