Arsenal Supporting Supporters: Chip Inn

Aaron Ramsdale is the latest Arsenal star to back our local businesses, this time with Holloway Road fish bar the Chip Inn, as part of the Arsenal Supporting Supporters series.

Inspired by player-business partnerships of yesteryear and kicked off by local pub, The Tollington and Rob Holding, this is the fourth instalment in a series of local businesses pairing up with members of the Arsenal men’s and women’s teams to raise awareness of their services and drive footfall on and around matchday. Many local businesses and community organisations who surround the local area were just as pleased as the club to see fans return to Emirates Stadium after matches were played behind closed doors.

Alongside our players, a variety of local businesses feature in the campaign, some of which are well known to Arsenal fans and others that need the extra support and awareness. Along with adverts which are aired across the businesses’ and club channels - including the stadium’s big screens - the businesses are a part of Arsenal fixtures and feature on the perimeter boards and inside the matchday programme.

The Chip Inn is a long-standing favourite with Arsenal fans and staff, and has been serving the wider community for more than 60 years. Based on the Holloway Road, it is run by Arsenal fan Murat Gokmen, who decided to step in and buy the business two years ago when its future was threatened by the Covid-19 pandemic.

This film sees Aaron feature in a 60-second advert alongside Gunners great David Seaman - and you can see it by clicking the 'Play' button above.

Along with the advert which will be aired across the fish bar's and our club channels - including the stadium’s big screens – the Chip Inn will be a part of the Wolves game and will feature on the perimeter boards and inside the matchday programme.

Murat was a talented player in his youth, and says that working alongside the club on the campaign has been a big thrill for him.

“Arsenal really means a lot to me,” said Murat, who is supported by his business partner and friend, Ferit. “I grew up locally and went to Holloway School. I played football in the JVC centre, supported the Gunners and the goal of every kid was to get to the school cup finals when you’d get to play on the Highbury pitch. Arsenal is just such a big part of the area and I’m really proud that another part of the community, the Chip Inn, now has that association with Arsenal.

“The campaign has been brilliant. Working with the Arsenal staff – I’m actually amazed that so many of them seem to have been coming to the chip shop for so many years – and of course filming the video, which was an amazing experience. Aaron was such a down to earth guy, he seemed to love being part of it, just like David Seaman did, what a great guy. We couldn’t have had a better experience.

"Hopefully, more and more people will get to hear about the Chip Inn now Arsenal have been involved – the guys there are even helping set up social media accounts for us. For now, I’m really looking forward to being at the game against Wolves with family and friends to cheer on the team in an Executive Box. It’s not the kind of thing that happens every day to people from a small business like us. Thanks Arsenal.”

Talking about the campaign, Arsenal CEO, Vinai Venkatesham, added: “This is one of a number of ways we are trying to support the local community. After listening to the local businesses involved, it was clear there was one thing in particular they needed – awareness. So, we got to work on creating a series of adverts in partnership with them which will hopefully ensure every Arsenal fan knows who they are and how they can use the brilliant services they offer.”
