Arsenal in the Community celebrate year of success

The annual Arsenal in the Community awards took place last Thursday (July 13) at Emirates Stadium.

The event celebrated the achievements of over 350 Arsenal in the Community participants over the course of the 2016/17 season.

We welcomed an array of special guests including Arsenal legends Charlie George and Paul Davis, alongside Arsenal under-23s stars Joseph Olowu and Stephy Mavididi who were on hand to present certificates to the award winners.

A number of special achievement awards were given to those participants, volunteers, schools and clubs who have achieved particular success this year.

The special achievement awards were announced by Kieran Gibbs and Chuba Akpom via video message.

Guests heard a number of inspiring stories from Arsenal in the Community participants including Lola Ogunbute, an Arsenal gap year student who is currently making a difference to underprivileged children around the world.

Photographs were taken by individuals involved in our photography project with Wembley to Soweto.

The Mayor of Islington and councillor Oโ€™Halloran also attended the event and showed her support to the work of Arsenal in the Community along with councillors from Islington's executive team and Lesley Seary, Islington CEO. Councillor Andy Hull received an award himself for his participation in our men's health programme.

Head of Arsenal in the Community, Alan Sefton, said: "Our awards ceremony celebrates the vast amount of people whom we work with throughout the year, and who have achieved a number of successes over the past 12 months.

"We are fortunate to be able to engage with people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, offering them a support network on top of their individual projects or courses, so to see so many of them celebrating their progression and success throughout the year with us is incredible.

โ€œI would like to congratulate all of our award winners and I'm looking forward to seeing their continued progress during the next year.โ€
