Africa Cup of Nations: Iwobi off to a flying start

Alex Iwobi

One of our stars was in Africa Cup of Nations action over the weekend. Scroll down to find out how they got on:

Alex Iwobi played the full 90 minutes of Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Burundi. Our Hale End graduate started on the left-hand side of a free-flowing front line as the Super Eagles got off to a flying start in Egypt.

In the end it took a moment of magic from Ola Aina to break the deadlock. The Torino full back collected the ball on the left-hand side and found Odion Ighalo with an inch-perfect backheel, allowing the former Watford striker to fire home.

Iwobi’s Nigeria and Mohamed Elneny’s Egypt will be in action on Wednesday. Iwobi will face Guinea at 3.30pm (UK time), while Elneny plays DR Congo at 9pm.
