Mohamed Elneny and Egypt were left heartbroken after losing on penalties to Senegal in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Our midfielder played the full match as the Pharaohs went in search of a record-breaking eighth triumph in the tournament, but they could have fallen behind early on after giving a away a penalty, only for Sadio Mane to see his spot kick saved.

Senegal looked the more likely to score, as Egypt broke up play but offered little attacking threat themselves and eventually the game went to extra time.

Seny Dieng twice went close to Senegal, while Marwan Hamdy tested Eduoard Mendy as the Pharaohs looked to nick it late on - but with the 120 minutes ending in stalemate, the final went to a shoot-out.

After a tense climax, Egypt’s Mohanad Lasheen saw his spot-kick saved - offering Mane the chance to win it for Senegal, and the Liverpool forward made no mistake.
