Ladies: Millwall v Arsenal - Preview

Danielle Carter

By Lloyd Webb

Whether Dan Carter is hitting the back of the net on the pitch or achieving her ambitions off it, goals have always been the forward’s main priority.

The 22-year-old is set to feature for Arsenal Ladies in their final Continental Cup group-stage game at Millwall Lionesses on Sunday, and a second trip to the Den in 2015 will bring back fond memories of the fixture.

Carter scored a hat-trick in the Gunners’ 7-0 FA Cup win in March, and she is hoping to help Arsenal continue their 100 per cent record in the Continental Cup with another impressive performance.

"Personally I want to break into the England senior team whether it be this year or next year"

“I want to score as many goals as possible,” the England Under-23 international told Arsenal.com. “Whether it is six goals or one, I’m happy either way.

“It was good to score a hat-trick at the beginning of the season. It’s a good way to up your confidence whether it’s a rival or Manchester City, it’s good to get on the scoresheet.”

Carter is now in her sixth season with Arsenal since joining from Leyton Orient and the forward believes a strong end to the 2015 season could put her in contention for an England call-up.

“Overall it’s been good,” she said. “Obviously there are the highs and lows. I have been here when Arsenal are the greatest and I have been here when there was a change in the women’s game, so it’s exciting for a neutral.

“Personally I want to break into the England senior team whether it be this year or next year. Hopefully in the near future I can do that.”
