Arsenal maintained their 100 per cent Premier League at Watford on Thursday night - but only just.
Vic Akers' side could not scale the heights of last weekend's FA Cup Semi-Final win over Everton but Rachel Yankey's first-half strike was enough to make it 16 wins out of 16 and keep Arsenal on course for another title.
The Ladies dominated possession against Watford on an uneven surface but the home side defended in numbers and made it difficult for Arsenal to find a way through.
The champions kept their patience, probed for openings and almost took the lead when Yankey crossed from the left and new signing Suzanne Grant volleyed just wide.
That vital goal did arrive before half-time when Katie Chapman knocked the ball into the penalty area, Watford's keeper spilled it and Yankey pounced to find the net.
Watford were forced to come out after the break in search of an equaliser but Arsenal kept their hosts at bay to keep their unblemished League record intact.
