Arsenal Ladies' hopes of securing a sixth consecutive Women's Premier League title were boosted on Thursday as two vital results went their way.
Vic Akers side took care of their own business, beating Birmingham 3-1 thanks to a brace from Kim Little and a header from Ciara Grant.
Meanwhile, title rivals Everton followed up their victory over Arsenal on Sunday by dropping their first points of the season. The Merseysiders were held to a 0-0 draw at Leeds Carnegie.
Thursday night’s results leave Arsenal eight points clear at the top of the table, although Everton have three games in hand.
Little made the difference for the champions at Birmingham. The Scotland forward fired Arsenal ahead after 18 minutes from just inside the box and doubled her tally just before the half-hour mark.
Becky Hall pulled a goal back for Birmingham after 48 minutes to put pressure on the visitors, but Grant nodded home with 17 minutes left to seal three valuable points for Arsenal.
