Arsenal won 6-1 at Sunderland to go three points clear at the
top of the Nationwide Women's Premier League.
Scottish international Julie Fleeting gave the visitors the lead
after 17 minutes - an advantage they carried into the half-time
interval. Almost immediately after the restart, the Gunners doubled
their lead when Sunderland striker, Mel Reay, put through her own
net. And moments later, Rachel McArthur made the game safe with
Arsenal's third.
Sunderland hit back through Donna Lanaghan to give themselves a
glimmer of hope. However any faint hopes of a revival by the home
side were dashed when McArthur grabbed her second in the 54th
minute to make it 4-1.
Republic of Ireland international Ciara Grant added a fifth for
Vic Akers' rampant outfit five minutes later, before Lianne
Sanderson completed the scoring in the 69th minute.
