Rodney Smithson spent the majority of his five-year spell at Arsenal in the reserves.
The wing half made just two first-team appearances in his Gunners career after joining as an apprentice in July 1960.
Smithson had initially joined the Club as a groundsman one year earlier but was recruited to the playing staff and turned professional in October 1960.
It took more than two years for him to make his senior debut, however, when he started in a 3-1 win over Fulham in September 1962.
His second and final appearance came in the same month but this time ended in a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Bolton.
Smithson made 63 appearances in the Football Combination and featured 81 times in the Metropolitan League.
He was given a free transfer to Oxford United in July 1964.
