Matthew Thomson earned himself a move to Arsenal in June 1908 after a successful trial during the team's tour of Scotland.
The half back eventually made his full league debut against Middlesbrough in March 1909 and enjoyed 94 starts under the stewardship of George Morrell.
Thomson was part of the only Arsenal side ever to experience relegation when they suffered the drop to the Second Division after finishing rock bottom in the 1912/13 campaign.
The defender eventually transferred to Swindon Town in May 1914.
