Len Thompson

Len Thompson

Len Thompson arrived at Arsenal from Swansea Town for £4,000 in March 1928.

He made his senior debut in the same month at home to Portsmouth but was troubled by a knee injury during his time at Highbury.

That meant appearances were restricted for the outside-left, who had previously been an England schoolboy international and was renowned for his expertise from the penalty spot.

In total he made 27 starts, scoring six times. Thompson eventually transferred to Crystal Palace in May 1933 after making his final senior appearance in a 1-0 defeat to Bolton almost a year earlier.

He was later reinstated as an amateur and assisted Islington Corinthians before briefly taking charge of Tottenham Reserves.
