Versatile half-back and inside-forward Joseph Murphy joined Arsenal from Stoke in 1899.
In his year at the Club, Murphy made 32 appearances but joined Raith Rovers at the start of the 20th century.
He was nicknamed ‘Judge’ or ‘Wiggy’ because he played in a wig or a cap.
