John Roberts

John Roberts was part of Arsenal's Double-winning side of 1970/71.

The half back featured 18 times as the Gunners won the Division One title at White Hart Lane, although he often found himself behind Bob McNab in the pecking order.

Roberts joined Arsenal from Northampton Town for £35,000 in April 1969 and went on to spend more than three years in north London.

He clocked up 77 starts, although he did not feature in the 1971 FA Cup final win over Liverpool.

Roberts, who worked as a railway fireman before taking up football, was more of a regular in the 1971/72 campaign when he made 26 appearances.

The young defender won international honours with Wales at both Under-23 and senior level during his Highbury career.

Roberts left to join Birmingham City in October 1972 for £150,000. He later featured for Wrexham and Hull City.
