Fred Groves

Fred Groves joined Arsenal as an amateur in August 1912 after a spell with Glossop North End.

The forward made his debut in a 4-1 defeat to Derby in December 1912 but was a fringe player up until the outbreak of the First World War.

Groves found appearances much easier to come by during the conflict, playing 132 times.

The striker was a regular in Arsenal's first season after the war and started 29 matches in 1919/20.

But he did not feature in the following campaign and transferred to Brighton  for £500 in August 1921. He later played for Charlton Athletic.
