Ernie Williamson

Ernie Williamson

Ernie Williamson was an ever-present in Leslie Knighton's Arsenal side of the early 1920s.

The goalkeeper made 113 starts during his four-year career at Highbury after signing from Croydon Common for £150 in April 1919 at the end of World War One.

Williamson had served in the RASC, making 122 wartime appearances for the team - mainly as a guest player.

He made his league debut against Newcastle United in August that year, going on to win London Combinations honours in 1922/23 and the FA Challenge Cup in 1921/22.

Williamson made his final appearance in a 4-1 defeat at Cardiff in September 1922, before moving to Norwich City eight months later on a free transfer.
