Ernie Tuckett's football career was sadly as short-lived as his life.
The promising inside forward joined Arsenal in June 1932 as an amateur at the age of 18, made the brief switch to Margate (Arsenal’s nursery club) in 1934 before finally signing professional terms with the Club in March 1936.
But utility man Tuckett struggled to break into the Arsenal first team, making just two senior appearances during his short spell in north London.
Tuckett had made local headlines with six goals in a London Midweek League match in 1933 but made both his Arsenal appearances as a central defender.
He eventually moved to Bradford City in February 1937 in a successful move which saw Arsenal acquire Laurie Scott. Tuckett featured for Bradford during wartime football until his death on active service in an airfield accident in May 1945.
