Edmund Bee

A bricklayer by trade, Edmund Bee maintained the tradition of Nottingham-born goalkeepers at Arsenal in the late 19th century.

Bee joined the Club in 1890 and replaced Fred Beardsley between the posts, the man whose own Nottingham connections prompted the donation of a Forest kit which gave Arsenal the red and white colours they still wear today.

Bee made the keeper's position his own and went on to make 105 senior appearances for Royal Arsenal.

He played four 'first-class' matches, all in the FA Cup, making his debut in that competition in a 2-1 defeat against Derby County in January 1891.

If Arsenal had been accepted into the Football League before 1893, Bee's tally of 'first-class' games would have been much higher. But he did Arsenal proud in the three years he was with the Club.
