David Nelson's Arsenal career was significantly affected by the outbreak of the Second World War.
The forward/wing half joined from St Bernards for £200 in May 1936 at the age of 18.
He made his debut in a 3-1 win over Preston North End in December 1936, the first of eight appearances and three goals that season.
Nelson played nine times in the two seasons before the outbreak of the war, where he served as a sergeant in the Army.
The Scottish attacker was a regular in the London Combination where he made 95 appearances and won league honours three seasons running from 1937 to 1939. In addition, he played 161 times during wartime.
Nelson appeared in Arsenal's first season after the war but was transferred to Fulham in December 1946 as part of the deal which brought prolific striker Ronnie Rooke to north London.
