Experienced defender Cedric spent the second-half of last season on loan at Fulham, his eight appearances helping the Cottagers to a top ten finish for the first time since 2011/12. Before that the Portugal international full-back, who normally plays on the right, featured four times for Mikel Arteta’s side, including a start in our only Carabao Cup match against Brighton & Hove Albion. That followed a strong finish to the 2021/22 season – when he appeared in each of our final 17 Premier League matches and scored only his second goal for the club, and his first since netting on debut, in a final-day 5-1 home win over Everton. Although he was cup-tied for the 2020 FA Cup final, the dependable defender helped us to win the Community Shield against Liverpool, scoring a penalty in the shootout.
He arrived in north London from Southampton, initially on loan in January 2020, before making the move permanent that summer. Born in Germany to Portuguese parents, Cedric joined Sporting Lisbon’s academy in 1998 and lifted the Portuguese Cup in his final season with the club, having won the trophy while on loan at Academica three years earlier. He was also a Euro 2016 winner with Portugal, playing every match in the knockout stage.
