Supremely-gifted attacker Alexis continued to demonstrate why he is regarded as one of the world’s most exciting forwards during a stellar 2016/17 campaign.
The numbers are a clear indication of why: 30 goals, 17 assists, 5 Player of the Month awards and, unsurprisingly, our Player of the Season prize.
Alexis - whose full name is Alexis Alejandro Sanchez Sanchez but is also nicknamed El Nino Maravilla (boy wonder) - provided plenty of stand-out moments during a season in which he was nominated for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award.
The most memorable included a scintillating 15-minute hat-trick at West Ham United in December and his injury-time Panenka penalty to give us a home win over Burnley a month later.
A man for the big occasion, Alexis reached 50 Premier League goals with his effort at Stoke soon after becoming our top scorer at Wembley when netting the extra-time winner in the Emirates FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester City. He ended the season in the best possible way, scoring our fastest FA Cup final goal when putting us 1-0 in front against Chelsea after just 229 seconds.
Alexis joined us from Barcelona in 2014 and scored in the FA Cup final win over Aston Villa to crown an impressive first season in London. A La Liga winner in 2013, he previously spent five years at Udinese in Serie A, which included loan spells with Colo-Colo and River Plate, having started his career with Cobreloa in Chile.
The Chile international has amassed more than 100 caps for his country and has won the Copa America twice, scoring the decisive spot-kick in the 2015 penalty shoot-out win against Argentina.
