Martinelli – Fabio practises that shot every day

Fabio Vieira enjoyed a dream full Premier League debut, scoring a cracker from outside the area to seal a 3-0 win at Brentford.

The Portuguese midfielder, who joined from Porto in the summer, has had to be patient so far this season, sampling his first action as a late sub against Manchester United earlier this month. He started last week away to FC Zurich in the Europa League, but this was the first time he had been included from the start in the league.

And the 22-year-old made sure it was an occasion to remember, cracking home in the second half with his left foot.

Afterwards, he spoke to Arsenal Media, alongside team-mate Gabriel Martinelli.

“It was lucky!” Fabio joked of his strike, but Gabi added: “Don’t say that. He’s been practising that shot every single day, so it’s not luck.”

Fabio continued: “I’m really happy of course to score my first goal with this club. We’ve started this season really well and we need to keep doing this. Everybody plays, everybody knows what they have to do on the pitch and we need to keep doing this.”

The two have become firm friends since Fabio joined in the summer, and are now developing a partnership on the pitch too.

“We are always together!” Gabi said. He’s a very good guy and everyone loves him. What I can do to help him, I will do and not just him, but everyone in the squad, I will do my best to help. With him it’s easier because he speaks Portuguese.

“It’s easier. What I can do I will do to help him, he’s a nice guy and a very good friend.”
