WHAT HAPPENED

We made it two wins from two in the Continental Cup on Sunday as we beat Charlton Athletic 4-0 at Meadow Park.

It was a professional performance that saw us maintain our place at the top of Group B and keep our sixth clean sheet of the season.

We were limited to shots from distance in the opening half-hour with the Addicks sitting deep in their defensive third, but thanks to a stunning set-piece delivery from Beth Mead, Jennifer Beattie registered her first goal for the club since re-joining from Manchester City in the summer.

The England international whipped the ball into the area and Beattie wrestled past her marker to finish on the stretch.

Mead then went on to assist our second, playing a delicate pass into the path of Danielle van de Donk, who raced through on goal and coolly fired past Katie Startup.

Though often the provider, Mead reminded fans of her goalscoring ability shortly after the break, fizzing a first-time effort into the bottom corner from a tight angle.

The versatile forward has now scored five and assisted six in all competitions this season.

Van de Donk then went on to score her second of the afternoon from 20 yards, only this time she was aided by Startup, who allowed the ball to slip through her gloves and into the back of the net.

Vivianne Miedema had a golden opportunity to further our advantage late on in the second half, but she made the wrong choice in front of goal, opting to beat her marker for a second time rather than pulling the trigger.

WHAT IT MEANS

We remain top of Group B with six points from two games. We're also yet to concede in the competition.
