Vivianne Miedema set a new Women’s Super League record on Sunday as we ran out 3-0 winners over Reading at Adams Park
Aaron D’Antino took charge of the side with Joe Montemurro suffering from illness, but it was business as usual as we took the lead inside just two minutes.
Katrine Veje beat her marker on the left wing and picked out Miedema on the edge of the box, who fizzed a deflected strike past the rooted Grace Moloney.
The Netherlands international has now scored more WSL goals in a single season (16) than any other player in the competition’s history. We’re only in January.
Shortly after, Miedema fell just short of another Veje delivery, before Louise Quinn made a crucial last-ditch tackle to deny Brooke Chaplen a shot at goal.
We dominated the first half - and on the stroke of half-time, we were handed a golden opportunity to double our advantage.
Ava Kuyken received the ball on the edge of the box after a scuffed clearance from Moloney, but the 17-year-old’s goal-bound effort was cleared off the line by Molly Bartrip.
Following the break, Katie McCabe’s diving header from six-yards out sailed narrowly wide of the post, before Pauline Peyraud-Magnin was eventually called into her first piece of action.
Former Gunner Fara Williams fired a thumping volley at goal from distance, and Peyraud-Magnin was there to tip the ball onto the crossbar and behind for a corner.
We continued to spurn chance after chance, with Miedema and McCabe coming close once more, but thanks to an impressive substitute appearance from Danielle van de Donk, Kim Little was handed the opportunity to seal all three points.
Jade Moore tripped the Netherlands international inside the penalty area - and Little stepped up to convert from 12 yards.
We were the better team throughout, and with less than a minute remaining, McCabe rounded off the scoring with a stunning long-range shot into the top left corner. Melisa Filis provided the assist with her first touch as a substitute

Our next game is against Crawley Wasps in the SSE Women’s FA Cup on Sunday, February 3.
