Beth Mead scored her 20th goal for Arsenal Women on Wednesday as we beat Yeovil Town Ladies 7-0 at Dorchester FC.

HOW IT HAPPENED

We’ve made quite the habit of starting fast in our recent fixtures - and thus was no exception. Kim Little received the ball in space on the edge of the area and picked out Jordan Nobbs, who found the bottom left corner with a low deflected effort.

Mead then worked a yard of space inside the box and fired wide from close range, before Nobbs’ curling effort sailed just wide of the post, following some intricate link-up play with Vivianne Miedema.

Pauline Peyraud-Magnin went on to make a vital save to deny Olivia Ferguson, who found herself through on goal, and less than three minutes later, we’d doubled our lead through Mead.

Nobbs’ dangerous delivery caused havoc inside the Yeovil box - and Mead was on hand to apply the finishing touch from close range.

Dominique Bloodworth’s driven free-kick skimmed the crossbar on the half-hour mark, before Little’s effort from the edge of the box concluded the first-half action.

But we offered Yeovil no time to regroup after the break, and in the 52nd minute Katie McCabe made an almost instant impact off the bench.

Emma Mitchell stormed down the left wing and played the ball into Nobbs, who teed up McCabe with a classy backheel pass. The Ireland international then skipped past a tackle, gained her composure and fizzed the ball into the bottom right corner.

Yeovil’s defence simply couldn't handle our movement in the final third, and just two minutes later, Miedema made it four. Nobbs slipped Miedema in on goal, and the 22-year-old checked inside before finishing past Megan Walsh for her seventh goal of the season so far.

Nobbs then fired into the top corner from Little’s squared pass, before Bloodworth scored a wonderful solo goal to cap off a faultless defensive performance. Our versatile defender beat her marker on the left wing, cut inside and found the bottom right corner with a composed right-footed finish.

The game looked as if it had run its course, but with less than a minute left on the clock, there was one final chance for our captain. Little pounced on a loose ball inside the box and fired a fierce volley beyond Walsh, ensuring that she’s now scored in each of her last five appearances for club and country.
