Vivianne Miedema and Kim Little both hit hat-tricks as we ran out 9-0 winners over Lewes Women in the Continental Tyres Cup.

HOW IT HAPPENED

We got off to a flying start thanks to Danielle van de Donk’s composed finish from close range, following some fine footwork from Little on the left wing.

Fifteen minutes later Miedema rounded Faye Baker and fired into an empty net, before Katie McCabe darted into the box and latched on to a drilled pass to make it three.

Miedema would then go on to grab her second of the afternoon. The Netherlands International evaded her marker, before poking the ball past Baker with an instinctive finish inside the six-yard box.

The pressure continued and less than a minute later van de Donk was back among the action. This time she twisted and turned inside the box to force a foul from her marker, and the referee was left with no other choice than to point to the spot. Little stepped up and made no mistake in converting from 12 yards.

It looked as if the scoring had come to a close in the first half, but with less than a minute remaining, Miedema was dragged down inside the box and the referee awarded yet another penalty. Baker was rooted to the spot as Little found the top corner with a thumping finish.

Lewes displayed greater defensive organisation in the opening stages of the second half, but we eventually found an opening on the hour mark through Lisa Evans, who coolly finished following an inch-perfect pass by Miedema.

And less than a minute later, Miedema claimed her second hat-trick in the space of a week. Our 22-year-old forward wriggled free of her marker on the edge of the box, before firing past Baker with a low left-footed strike.

Inspired by Miedema, Little then went on to record her own hat-trick less than eight minutes later. Jordan Nobbs teed up our captain from a free-kick after being fouled on the edge of the box – and her first-time effort crashed in off the post to round off the scoring at The Dripping Pan.
