WHAT HAPPENED

Despite missing two first-half penalties, we booked our place in the fifth round of the SSE Women’s FA Cup with a convincing win over Yeovil Town at Weston-Super-Mare FC.

Danielle Carter and Beth Mead had failed to capitalise from the spot, but the latter went on to find the net from open play, with Jordan Nobbs’ strike and Hannah Miles’ own goal securing our progression to the last 16.

Just as we did against Reading last weekend, we started the game on the front foot - and this time we made our dominance count.

It only took Nobbs 10 minutes to break the deadlock, thanks to good work by Heather O’Reilly on the left-hand side. After the hosts had given the ball away in midfield, O’Reilly pounced to feed Nobbs, and the England international gratefully slotted home.

We should have doubled our lead moments later. After Mead had headed on to the crossbar, she was brought down in the box, but could only fire wide from 12 yards.

Referee Daniel Lamport awarded us another penalty with just five minutes remaining of the first half when Nobbs went down after colliding with Georgia Evans. After Evans was stretchered off, Carter stepped up but saw her spot kick saved by Megan Walsh.

Despite spurning two good opportunities, we still doubled our advantage before the break. Yeovil were careless in possession once more, allowing Mead to finish past Walsh.

A slight knock to our forward meant she was unable to continue in the second half, but we still had plenty of firepower in reserve with Vivianne Miedema coming off the bench to replace her.

Despite our abundance of attacking threat, our third goal came from an opposition player. A deep corner went through a whole host of players and was turned home by Miles to put the game out of Yeovil’s reach.
