WHAT HAPPENED
We slipped to a frustrating 2-0 defeat against Manchester City in the Premier League 2 on Friday night.
Liam Delap scored twice for the league leaders, but it could have been more if not for Arthur Okonwko, who made a number of outstanding saves.
City started strong at Meadow Park as Felix Nmecha’s low effort was saved, before Tommy Doyle fired over from the edge of the area.
But the visitors pushed on and after just 15 minutes found themselves ahead. Ryan Alebiosu, who was otherwise impressive on the night, lost possession with a sloppy throw-in and Delap duly converted after cutting inside from the left wing.
Steve Bould’s side were boosted by the availability of Reiss Nelson and he came close to providing an instant response - but his low drive was tipped behind by Louie Moulden after dribbling past two midfielders.
Our biggest chance of the evening arrived just moments later, though, as Nelson picked out Kido Taylor-Hart at the far post and our No 7 fired a half-volley towards goal. Somehow, the angle was closed down and Moulden produced a fine save.
This proved to be a game-changing moment, with City doubling their advantage just three minutes after the restart. Romeo Lavia led the charge on the counter and Delap was on hand to finish past Okonkwo.
We pushed on in the hope of sparking a late comeback, but the visitors maintained their composure and limited us to half-chances only in the closing stages.
