WHAT HAPPENED
Our under-18s slipped to a frustrating 3-2 away defeat against West Ham on Saturday.
Alex Kirk and Kido Taylor-Hart were on the scoresheet for Ken Gillard’s side as they delivered a spirited performance from start to finish - but we were ultimately made to pay for Levi Laing’s early first-half dismissal.
Jayden Fevrier opened the scoring for the hosts after rounding Hubert Grazyzk and firing into the back of the net, before Laing controversially saw red for dragging down Kai Corbett on the edge of the area.
Shortly after, the Hammers doubled their lead in scrappy fashion through Archie Woods, but we didn’t let our heads drop and, less than two minutes later, Kirk pulled one back with an instinctive effort from Omari Giraud-Hutchinson’s set-piece delivery.
Full of confidence, we continued to push on in the second half and we eventually grabbed our reward, with Taylor-Hart pouncing on a defensive error to curl the ball into the bottom corner.
But there would be late heartbreak, as substitute Gael Kileba broke free down the left wing to reach the byline and square the ball across goal for Corbett to convert.
