WHAT HAPPENED
We extended our winning streak to five U-18 Premier League fixtures on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Swansea City on the road.
We started on the front foot and our positive play was almost instantly rewarded. Matthew Smith played a ball into the feet of Folarin Balogun, who was fouled on the turn and awarded a free-kick 30 yards from goal. Sam Greenwood then stepped up and made no mistake in curling the ball into the top corner for his second set-piece goal of the season.
From there we looked to take control of the game as we played out from the back, but following an overhit backpass and a wayward clearance, Arnor Gudjohnsen levelled for the hosts on the stroke of half-time.
It was a tough blow to take, but following the break we wasted no time in asserting our dominance once more.
Balogun’s left-footed effort was blocked inside the box, before Smith restored our lead with a stunning solo goal. Our captain slipped the ball between the legs of his marker on the penalty area, before twisting and turning past three defenders and firing the ball into the bottom corner.
We offered the hosts few opportunities back into the game, before going on to further our advantage deep into stoppage time. Smith controlled the ball just inside the box, shifted the ball on to his weaker foot and found the the far corner with almost no backlift on his curling effort.
WHAT IT MEANS
We’ve climbed to the top of the U-18 Premier League table.
