Arsenal Under-18s stretched their unbeaten run to 13 matches thanks to a comprehensive victory away at Reading on Saturday.

In a dress rehearsal for our upcoming FA Youth Cup quarter-final, we took an early lead when Zak Swanson deftly volleyed James Olayinka’s deep cross into the far bottom corner.

We extended our lead soon after, Folarin Balogun stabbing home from close range after Danny Ballard had headed down Matt Smith’s inviting corner.

And things were to get even better just after the quarter-hour mark. This time Josh Benson was picked out on the edge of the area by Tobi Omole’s long throw. Afforded time to shoot, the midfielder fizzed a low shot into the bottom corner.

Thierry Never pulled one back for the hosts after a jinking solo run, but we restored our three-goal advantage just after the midway point in the second half, with Swanson tapping home his second after fine Balogun build-up play.

Balogun then added his second, finishing clinically after beating the offside trap, and substitute Robbie Burton completed the scoring six minutes before full-time, guiding a low shot into the far corner.
