Chuba spent last season out at Brighton and Hove Albion, securing his loan club promotion to the Premier League for the second season in a row.
The London-born forward spent the 2015/16 campaign as part of Hull City’s promotion-winning squad under the guidance of Steve Bruce, making 36 appearances.
This time he made just one start, with nine substitute appearances during his loan spell on the south coast with Steve Hughton’s Seagulls.
Chuba was used largely as a substitute by the Brighton boss, after making a move to the Championship side in January.
Akpom had enjoyed a strong pre-season with Arsene Wenger’s side, scoring a late winner and picking up the Most Valuable Player award in a 2-1 victory against the MLS All-Stars.
The forward also found the net in the 3-1 win over Chivas de Guadalajara, as well as in an 8-0 rout of Viking FK in Norway.
Akpom played on the left flank in the 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup, but the start of his season was blighted by an untimely injury which left him playing catch up.
First-team chances proved hard to come by, prompting his eventual loan switch to Brighton.
