A surprise ‘call-up’ to train with Fabio Capello’s England squad, a regular spot in the Reserves, an eight-day loan spell at Southampton and a place on the bench at Old Trafford - it’s fair to say 2010/11 was a whirlwind season for James Shea.
The Islington-born keeper, known for his excellent shot-stopping ability, helped Capello and his players at London Colney last August and quickly became first-choice for the second string.
James spent a short time at Southampton before being recalled to provide valuable first-team back-up to Wojciech Szczesny - he was named on the bench seven times, including twice in the Premier League.
His development was rewarded with a contract extension in February, and he will spend this season on loan at Dagenham & Redbridge in League Two.
