Steve was named as Arsène Wenger's assistant manager in May 2012 after the retirement of the long-serving Pat Rice.

Prior to that he coached Arsenal's rising stars from 2001, presiding over several highly-successful young sides during the past decade and overseeing the 2009 Youth Cup triumph and consecutive FA Academy Premier League titles.

A highly rated and astute coach, Steve was rewarded for his successes with the youth team with a promotion to become Wenger's No 2.

A stalwart of the Arsenal defence during much of his playing career and known for his dominant, uncompromising performances, Steve won seven major honours for the Club and made 372 appearances between 1988 and 1999.

He also earned two full England caps prior to finishing his career with Sunderland. Steve’s career began at Stoke City, his hometown club.
