Jack Wilshere... in pre-season action at Barnet
Wilshere - Emirates Cup can set season's tone
By Nick Teale
Jack Wilshere believes a good performance at the Emirates Cup can help set the tone for the new campaign.
Arsenal welcome AC Milan, Celtic and Olympique Lyonnais to Emirates Stadium on July 31 and August 1 for the annual pre-season competition.
Last season Wilshere burst onto the scene during the tournament with man-of-the-match displays against Atletico Madrid and Rangers. He made a further seven first-team appearances for Arsène Wenger's side before joining Bolton Wanderers on loan, where he made 13 Premier League starts.
The young midfielder is already looking forward to this season's Emirates Cup and another chance to shine.
"It can help set the tone for your season," he told Arsenal.com. "A good performance at the Emirates Cup can help put you in the manager's mind.
"It's a chance to show what you can do against some of the best clubs. It's good for the younger players too. They can make an impact in front of the manager.
"As a young player you always want to take your chance and the Emirates Cup is really good for that.
"It is a good tournament. It is good for families to come and watch some of the best teams and some of the best players and it always has a really good atmosphere."
