Mark Halsey
Wenger - I'm so glad to see Halsey back
By Chris Harris
Arsène Wenger is delighted to see Mark Halsey back in action seven months after the referee was diagnosed with cancer.
The official took charge of Arsenal's opening game of the season - a 6-1 win at Everton - 24 hours after being told he had the disease. Halsey started chemotherapy treatment six days later and returned to the game at a reserve fixture between Leicester and Scunthorpe at Hinckley United FC this week.
While Halsey is in remission, his wife is still battling leukaemia and Wenger wished them both well when he spoke to reporters at his pre-match press conference.
"I have been in contact with him and it is fantastic," said the Arsenal manager.
"In this situation it is his wife as well. So that is dreadful and they have been hit very hard. So when you see him running on a pitch it is fantastic to see."
