William Gallas... hasn't played since Liverpool game on February 10
Wenger - I’ll be cautious over Gallas injury
By Chris Harris
Arsène Wenger will err on the side of caution when he next considers a comeback for William Gallas.
The centre back has been sidelined by a calf problem since the 1-0 win over Liverpool on February 10 and he broke down in training at the start of this week when a return to action seemed imminent.
According to Wenger that setback left Gallas “back at the starting point” in terms of his recovery and, although a scan has since shown no major damage, the manager will not take any unnecessary risks.
“The scan showed nothing major, but every time he starts to push a little bit he falls back so it has not completely healed,” said Wenger.
“Calves sometimes are a mystery. It came back twice. It's that the injury is much worse, it's that we have to be cautious with it. We pushed him a bit and he was in a hurry. But we have to be cautious this time, to take a little bit more time than we would do.
“France shouldn't be worried for [the World Cup in] June, it's minor. He has no fibre damage, he has a bit of pressure between two muscles."
