Arsène Wenger at Stamford Bridge on Sunday
Wenger - I did praise Chelsea's display
By Richard Clarke
Arsène Wenger has moved to clarify statements he made in his post-match press conference at Chelsea on Sunday.
The Arsenal manager’s words were interpreted to be negative about Carlo Ancelotti’s side but, speaking ahead of Wednesday’s game against Liverpool, the Frenchman suggested the majority of his views were positive.
This comes on the back of his press conference after the 0-0 draw at Aston Villa a fortnight ago where Wenger’s “long ball” remarks created headlines after they were put to Martin O’Neill.
“I just would like to say that I was full of compliments and praise for Chelsea after the game and I find completely unfair from the press that you take one word of my press conference to turn it into a kind of probe every time,” he said.
“You did that at Villa, you did that at Chelsea and every time if you look at the intent of my press conference it was positive towards the opponent.
“I am long enough in England to know that the team who wins can say what they want. They are right.
“But it is my job to take a distance from that, analyse the game in a calm way with a cold head and to analyse what is right.”
