Byrne - Let's finish the job at Liverpool

By Oliver Yew

Emma Byrne insists a "huge weight" has been lifted from her side’s shoulders following their 1-0 win over rivals Everton on Thursday.

The victory at Meadow Park means the Gunners are now just one win away from lifting the FA Women’s Super League crown and the goalkeeper has urged her team-mates to finish the job against Liverpool.

“We are delighted with the win and it feels like a huge weight off our shoulders but it’s not finished yet as we’ve still got to go to Liverpool,” she told Arsenal.com.

“The job is not finished yet but we will be going all-guns blazing for the three points a week on Sunday.”

Arsenal are now within touching distance of winning the WSL title thanks to their hard-fought win over the Toffees.

Kim Little’s second-half strike sealed all three points for the Gunners but Byrne played her part with a superb save at point-blank range from Natasha Dowie’s late effort.

"I was lucky Natasha [Dowie] scuffed the shot and after it was just a case of me getting anything on it. Luckily Niamh Fahey was there to clear the ball away.

“The last five minutes were the longest I’ve ever had in my career so it was another huge team effort to keep Everton out.”
