Gunners' 21st Greatest Goal - Emmanuel Adebayor

Emmanuel Adebayor v Tottenham (A) 09-15-2007
Rivalries usually bring out the best in athletes, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that many of Arsenal’s most memorable goals come at the expense of our North London neighbors. But in 2007, Emmanuel Adebayor produced a goal that truly stands out.

Arsenal had won five of their first six games in the 2007/08 season and headed to White Hart Lane on September 15. Despite some big summer spending, Spurs had started the season poorly and were hoping to bounce back against the Gunners. And a 15th-minute goal by Gareth Bale handed the hosts a lead and shocked Arsenal.

But the visitors fought back in the second half. Adebayor finally scored the equalizer just past the hour, and with 10 minutes remaining, a goal by Cesc Fabregas gave the Gunners the lead. Seeking an equalizer of their own, Spurs threw everything they had at Arsenal’s defense, but their attempts left them vulnerable in the back.

Tomas Rosicky won possession just outside the Gunners’ penalty area and scampered forward. He played a neat one-two with Adebayor, before sliding the ball to Denilson down the right-hand side. The Brazilian had a chance to seal the win with a one-on-one with Paul Robinson, but the England No 1 denied him with his feet.

However, the save only made it 45 yards from goal, where Fabregas picked up the ball and sent it toward a lurking Adebayor on the edge of the area.

The striker set himself up with a soft first touch that he then fired into the top corner.

A tremendous volley and another North London derby win.
