Bob McNab was a fixture in Arsenal's back-four from 1966-1975. In all, he made in 365 appearances for the Gunners, only three of those as a substitute. Throughout the season, the former left back will provide his expert insight into all things Arsenal.
Bertie Mee used to say to us when we were playing against a side that was deficient in every way, that they would fight scratch and bite because of who you are – you are the Arsenal.
He'd say: "This is going to be a battle royal, You have to match them for their effort and fight. It might take 89 minutes for our skills and technique to come through, but if you don’t match them with that, we’re not going to come through on top."
In my day, with the poor fields we used to play on, results like that were more prevalent that they are today. But his point will never be lost, no matter how football turns.
