The weekend didn't start how I'd hope. By 6:45am my weekend's mood had been set by an uninspiring performance by the Gunners. Not sure what to make of the game. We were flat, lacked energy, and most of all that killer instinct. Maybe if we had converted one of the many chances we had, then we'd be singing a different tune.
Taking full points against Chelsea would have been a great motivation and inspiration for the season, but yet the Footballing Gods thought otherwise. We showed spirit last week at Citeh, but lacked it this week.
It's hard to blame individuals for the loss as it seemed this was a TEAM that failure. Yes, some of the defensive fouls lead to goals, but it's the team defense on the set piece that was collectively at fault. Focus, focus, focus. You want a real reason, a tactical reason? You can always read other blogs that know more than me.
As I told Matt Law on Twitter, I'm sure his match report was a good read, I just still wasn't in the mood to read about it. The game made me mad. Not disappointed. I just wish we had showed more.
But this was only the beginning of my footballing weekend as my New York Football Giants of the NFL also had a game against a hated rival. The Philadelphia Eagles. And as my weekend started with a loss by one of my beloved teams, it ended Sunday night on the same note. A loss. An uninspired loss to a rival. I became numb.
You know, sports can be cruel. Painful at times. But the great thing about them is that there is always another game to focus on. Upward and FORWARD. I hope.
Be sure to tune into this week's Arsenal America Podcast where will have Tim Payton of the AST and Julian Harris from Gingers 4 Limpar on the show to chat about our finances, Chelsea, Olympiacos and look ahead to West Ham United.
Thanks for reading and thanks for listening.
