UEFA Europa League
UEFA Europa League
The UEFA Europa League - previously called the UEFA Cup - is an annual football cup competition for European club teams who qualify via their domestic leagues and cup competitions. Arsenal have won this trophy once, when it was known as the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, beating Anderlecht over two legs in 1970.
From the 2009/10 season, this competition has a new format. There will be a group stage with 12 groups of four teams who play each other twice, once at their home stadium and once at their opponents' ground. The 12 winners and 12 runners-up in the group stage will advance to the first knockout round, together with eight third-placed teams from the Champions League group stage. The teams are whittled down from 32 via a knockout competition and the final two clubs meet in the Europa League Final.
