Barclays Premier League

The Premier League is England's primary football competition and very much the priority for Arsenal when each season kicks off in August.

There are 20 clubs in the Premier League and, during the course of a season, each club plays the others twice, once at their home stadium and once at their opponents' ground. Teams receive three points for a win, one point for a draw and no points for a defeat. Teams are ranked by total points, then goal difference, and then goals scored. At the end of each season, the club with the most points over their 38 games is crowned as champions. Arsenal have earned that accolade 13 times.

The top four teams qualify for the UEFA Champions League and at least one place in the UEFA Europa League is also available via the Premier League. The three lowest placed teams in the Premier League are relegated into the Football League Championship with three teams from that division winning promotion into the top flight.
